Ms.Tierney's English 10 Website

Welcome!

You've found our class website! This is a great place to find information on assignments, due dates, and additional resources to supplement your learning.

This site will be updated throughout the school year, which will allow you to view our current unit and look ahead to what's coming next. Most assignments will be turned in on Google Classroom or in our physical classroom, this website is just a place to have information available to students and caregivers.

I love to hear from students and caregivers, so if you have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free to reach out! My information is listed under the "Contact Me" page, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Class Rules and Expectations

What I value most in my classroom is simple: kindness. I expect everyone involved in this learning community to practice kindness both in and outside the classroom. This includes speaking with respect, treating others the way we would want to be treated and accepting each other for who we are. We will respect every ability and treat everyone with dignity.

I expect students to show up to class punctually and prepared. Being prepared includes bringing a writing utensil, a notebook/binder, your English 10 folder, and a positive attitude. I encourage you to leave any baggage (metaphorically of course) at the door of the classroom and allow yourself to have the best class possible.

If you miss class, you are responsible for making up the work that you missed. I will always post homework assignments on our class website, and you can use our class directory to contact a classmate. Feel free to email me for class notes, or if you know you will be absent ahead of time let me know and I can give you the work before you leave.

Grading Policies

To achieve the best possible grade in this class, preparation is key. If you fail to hand assignments in on time, I will deduct 5% per day late. Online assignments are to be handed in by 8am the day that they are due, and physical assignments should be ready to hand in at the beginning of class. This means printed and stapled, ready to go in the collection bin.

I will usually check homework by walking around the room, but some days I will randomly collect it to make sure it is being done properly. Homework will be graded with a check/no check system on days that I walk around, and on a scale of 1-5 on days that it is collected. Completing homework fully and dilligently will ensure the best grade, no matter how it is graded.

If you are absent from class, you may hand in work the following class period. Please see or contact me if this is a problem, and we can make a plan together.
